The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is the only international treaty negotiated under the auspices of WHO. It was adopted by the World Health Assembly on 21 May 2003. It has since become one of the most rapidly and widely embraced treaties within the United Nations. The First Session of the Meeting of the Parties ( MOP) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products took place in Geneva, Switzerland from 8 to 10 October 2018. The three-day session was the first gathering of the Parties to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, following the treaty’s entry into force on 25 September 2018. Representatives of all 44 Parties to the Protocol took part.
